Cod4 Ak47 Guide
AK47 Guide Introduction - The AK-47 is one of the most deadly weapons in 4. It deals out a huge amount of damage and maintains a nice rate of fire. However its not all cakes and pies with the AK. Its also one of the hardest weapons in the game to use. The gun has some serious kick back when fired full-auto. If you are going to be effective with this gun your going to need a solid understanding of how it works. Attachments - This is one of the few weapons I don't use any attachments on. You can make a good argument for using one but the gun is commonly used with no attachments by good players. The Grenade Launcher is a good weapon for beginners, until they unlock a good perk for slot one. The down sides to this weapon are slow rate of fire, low ammo, and it takes the place of your first perk. The silencer can be a good attachment for an aggressive player trying to cover his tracks. The AK already has enough ranged problems to begin with so take that into consideration when using this attachment. Red Dot Sight is not necessary. The standard AK sight has good visibility. If you are already used to having the red dot on every other gun, using it on the AK might make you feel more at home. The ACOG Scope is still crap, like always. This gun isn't meant for long range, an annoying scope that takes up your whole monitor wont change that. Perks - There's only two reasonable perk choices for the AK-47 in slot one. First is bandolier, this perk works great for the AK. Since its one of the best wall spamming guns in the game you will need lots of ammo to poke around. The other is Frag Grenades X3, and I only recommend this if you don't have bandolier yet. In the Perk two slot you have three good choices to select from. Starting with Stopping Power. Your AK already does crazy damage, adding this on top of it is almost unfair (but you're not trying to be fair). AK + Stopping Power = lots of fast kills. Juggernaut is next in line. If your playing defensive and trying to hold the line this is the perk for you. Last up on the Perk two spot is Double tap. The AK is a beast to handle with a regular firing rate, so add this with caution. Its good for close range but hurts when your going for wall-spam. You only need to worry about two choices for Perk three. Steady Aim is a must for aggressive AK players. Being aggressive means pushing the line, and that involves lots of up close 1v1s and you will love steady aim in those fights. On the other hand you have Deep Impact, which is also a good AK perk. This one will work out better for players who are playing passive. If you're defending a spot or sitting in a perch this is perfect for you. What perks you choose should be decided by how you plan on taking apart the map. Think about how aggressive your going to play, and what kind of spots you'll be playing in to decide. Getting Accuracy - The hardest part about using the AK is getting used to the recoil that comes with it. The damage this gun can deal out is amazing but what's the point if you cant hit any thing? The gun's recoil is not 100% random. You cant control the bullet spread horizontally, but the vertical bullet spread is
in your control. All you have to do to control it is pull down your cross-hair...a lot. Lets say you run into some one at close-mid range. First thing you need to do is iron sight, or you wont hit any thing with this gun. If you want to unload on them full-auto you literally need to start aiming at their feet after the first few shots. Its not easy to get used to but well worth it for those who can master the technique. Although the gun is extremely inaccurate, you can use it unzoomed at point blank and get kills. The reason is it does so much damage you only need to tag some one with a few stray shots. If, for some reason, you want to shoot a target long range, take it slow and easy. One shot at a time, and if things don't go your way forget about it and find another way to get them. Playing it Smart - The key to doing well with the AK is to play it smart. You want to try and keep the fire fights at close to mid range. The gun is too inaccurate to be getting into pick fights against other assault rifles. The AK-47 is good for being aggressive and pushing through enemy lines. Its even better for defense, if you can set your cross-hairs on a doorway and wait, its an almost guaranteed kill. Hiding in perches works well for this gun, you can pick people off before they even get a chance to see you. Choose your perch carefully though since most of them tend to be long range. A good AK can go toe to toe with an MP5 up close, what you really need to watch out for are snipers and M16s at long range. Combine these techniques with dragging down your cross-hair and your Kill to death ratio WILL rise. Misc Stuff - Now I'll give you some advice on common mistakes to avoid with the AK-47. The biggest is people who use the AK in single shot bursts at mid range. Your going to be playing against MP5s and M4s at mid range if you cant full on auto you will get out damaged even with the AK. You have to learn to pull down or there's no point in using the gun, single shot should only be used at long range. Another common mistake is attaching a silencer then trying to get into a perch and pick people. The AKs range is bad enough as is without the silencer. To make full use of the AKs damage you need to get up close and personal. Lastly Make sure your perks match your play style, and unless your play style is dead don't use martyrdom or last stand. Good/Bad Maps - Now lets take a look at some maps that will favor you with an AK-47. Crash is a very good map for the AK. B-alley has plenty of good places to set up and defend at mid range. Most of the enterable building offer good in range spots for some one looking to get easy kills with the AK. Crossfire is another map where the AK excels. Its filled with paper thin walls and repetitive spots, making it a great map for wall kills. The AKs high damage and big clip make it perfect for walling. B-bombsite and the blown out middle buildings are perfect for wall-spam. Strike on defense plays into the AKs strengths. You should avoid the perches on this map because they are pretty much all long range. What you want to do is use the AK to defend door ways and bomb site entry. There are tons of good mid range spots to rotate through and keep the other guy guessing.
